My early career
as a photographer, my middle career as a technical writer and software
engineer, and my later career as a publisher/editor have given me a solid
foundation for a career as a media communications professional.
I started my career at Georgia
State University (GSU) as a writer, photographer, and Photo Editor for
the Signal, the GSU student paper. I went on to act as staff
photographer for the Roswell/Alpharetta Neighbor, Creative
Loafing, and Southern Voice.
After earning a BA in Journalism,
I entered the corporate world of technology as a technical writer. This
provided me with a variety of writing opportunities in corporate communications,
professional papers, press releases, online help, HTML, technical specifications,
and technical manuals.
As my interest in computers grew, I branched out and became a database administrator
and software engineer for BellSouth. I also served as a Quality Assurance
Engineer while at BellSouth. This lead me into designing intranet websites
for BellSouth, integrating the database backend with active server pages
on the front end. My years of desktop publishing as a technical writer helped
me create quality page layouts for web pages.
In 2004, I completed a Master's
degree in Communications at Georgia State University (concentration
in film, video, and digital imaging). This degree was a natural extension
of my interests and experience in photography, writing, and computer
software.
I spent several years as the
publisher and editor of Southern Screen Report, a volunteer-supported
print and online magazine for the independent film and video community.
